Preventing Paper Jams on Perforated Paper

Modified on Wed, 22 Nov, 2023 at 4:35 PM

Perforated paper, often used for printing tickets, labels, or specialized documents, requires extra care to prevent jams.

Here are some tips to ensure your printer operates smoothly.

Step 1: Fan it Like You Mean It

Before you toss that perforated paper into the printer, give it a good fan. Imagine you're shuffling a deck of cards – this helps separate the sheets and prevents them from sticking together. A well-fanned stack is a happy stack.

Step 2: Check the Batch

Quality control time! Take a quick look through your stack of perforated paper. Make sure there are no bent corners, tears, or rogue bits hanging on for dear life. A little pre-scan goes a long way.

Step 3: Adjust the Guides

Now, let's get those paper guides in check. Most printers have adjustable paper guides to match the width of your paper. Make sure they are well-aligned – not too tight, not too loose.

Step 4: Mind the Capacity

Don't overload the tray. Printers have their limits, and exceeding them can increase the likelihood of jams. Check your printer's manual for the recommended paper capacity.

Step 5: Smooth Operator

Handle your paper with care. When dealing with perforated sheets, keep them flat to avoid crinkles. Store them in a cool, dry environment, avoiding exposure to extreme temperature or humidity changes. Proper storage minimizes the accumulation of dust, ensuring the paper stays optimal for printing.

Remember, a little TLC for your perforated paper goes a long way in preventing paper jams.
